Community Update #12

The winter has finally arrived and so has the recent community updates! I have edited the forum theme to bring more Christmas mood to everyone :kappa:

This post is gonna be more of explaining about the current situation we have, and will post another bigger announcement on Monday with a different subject.

Some of you might have noticed how the number of players varies radically from day to day. When we founded CS-Frag, respecting the legacy of EUFrag,

we also continued allowing no-steam players to join our servers. And from that day on, we've paid 'additional' no-steam promotion,

so more no-steam players would find their way to our servers (Just like EUFrag). We have continued promoting till today, and we have been rethinking it twice.

Is it really worth it? Why pay extra money just to get players, that most likely are going to leave right after the promotion ends? (It has done good job so far, but..)

It is easy to see how dependent the servers have begun of the promotion. We honestly do not want to know how much money we have spent on no-steam promotion services

during all these years, and how much money could been spent much more wisely. We decided it's time for a change. We will lose a lot, but it is also sort of a new beginning.

We will continue allowing no-steam players to join our servers (For now), but without using any of the more bizarre promotion 'bullshit'.

I felt responsible explaining the 'dirty' truth how is it to run no-steam based servers. And I think it's good for everyone in the community to know it,

since we have never mention about it in public. It's gonna effect a lot, that's the main reason why we want you to know. It's a thing we have been regretting since beginning.

After all, this is just our hobby based project that we really enjoy working on our freetime and see the community growing. Speaking of the fees that's caused to run all of this,

it's about time to put more respect towards the money we invest, and also towards the money that are donated by you, the community members. Huge thanks for all of you,

who has made any amount of donation this far! They really matter to us, and it's been a massive help. The community is after all 100% ran by the donations and we're not making any profit out of this.

The rest what there is to pay comes obviously from our own pockets.

Long story short:

Paying for no-steam promotion to your server + having no-steam is one concept of running a community. "Many" popular servers do that, especially in counter-strike games,

There's no problem of doing it, we've done it, you seen it. It used to be our concept, but it's time to make end of it. I can say it was worth it, since most of YOU have found their way to us.

But this is not the way how we want to continue and keep growing as an community, and we hope to have your full support.

Time to put more value on the money.

But more fun and interesting stuff coming on Monday Wednesday.

New servers, Christmas events and more!

Promotion = a lot of $$ , i've never tried it but i know how much it costs . @Calig don't even think to calculate how much csfrag paid since the beginning [including eF maybe] :kappa: . Yeah stop it and the current players including the non steamers should find the csfrag servers from their games

EUFrag was a community that allowed non-steam players since the beginning. I too, as well as others, have first joined and started playing here while non-steam. As such, I'd like to point out that preserving the legacy of EUFrag would mean preserving this ability of non-steamers to play on the servers. About promotion though, if the staff team thinks it's too big of an expense to handle, then you should end it. After all, being in a community does not only include caring for the good of a portion of the CS-Frag  playerbase, rather for the community as a whole.

Long live CS-Frag!

Good to hear this, it was a discussion I remember going since maybe a year. Im glad you guys finally managed to do it. Like @Calig said, its not even worth it. About the people commenting that "rip us non steamers", what Calig and the administration team are trying to tell you is that: YES, THE PROMOTION of the server is over, which means it will no longer appear on your "favorites" tab (CS:S non steam clients) you will have to add it there yourself and join the server from there. This does NOT mean that non-steam clients will no longer be eligible to join the server. Read carefully next time.

How are you going to make more money with less players? (less donations?)

And yep, as I use no-steam CS:S:

Not every weekend, but most of the time we do organize events, where there's a poll for people to vote for the maps they actually want.

Do they get any reward, after wining the whole level of the map?
